Covid Action Plan **Updated 17th July 2020

I would highly recommend bookmarking this page since I intend to keep it updated as and when new information comes to light. Also, share with friends and family if you find it useful.

This guide is prepared after

  1. Conversation with people who have recovered from Covid
  2. Direct calls with hospitals to verify information
  3. Consultation with the family doctor

My conclusion is no one knows what to do and what happens afterward. So the sensible thing to do is to look at practical information from above sources and use that to our advantage. I would divide it into these categories.

Proactive action against Covid

At the moment, the only approach is to build your immunity. Keeping that in mind and after a conversation with people who have recovered, this is what I think is happening even in hospitals. There is someone I know who is currently admitted, and this is exactly the regimen he is under.

These being over the counter solution, I have started it myself.

  1. Vitamin D – There are two options. There are tablets that you take once a week. Another option is daily. I have started the weekly tablet for about 8 weeks before taking a break now. My logic is simple – Since Vitamin D is synthesized in the sun, due to too much time indoors, we are not getting enough of it. (Lunchtime)
  2. Vitamin C – Even though daily citrus fruits are usually fine, I have started daily 500 mg. There is Limcee to Celin tablet. Since it does not get stored in the body, this dosage is fine (Post Dinner)
  3. Vitamin B Complex – Good old Becosule (Post Dinner)
  4. Zinc Sulphate – 50mg daily. Although medical research seems divided of the efficacy, being a supplement, its a good option against viruses.  (Lunchtime)
  5. Since multi-vitamin tablets have above vitamins, but in smaller quantities, one week in a month, I ONLY take multi-vitamin and NOT the individual tablets. That way, vitamin overdose is avoided.
  6. Inhaling steam – I genuinely don’t believe that steam can ‘kill’ the virus DNA, definitely, there is no harm in taking it in monsoon season anyway when common cold and flu are also common. Steam does help in keeping blockages away.
  7. Drinking warm water thrice a day – Again, I absolutely do not believe that you can wash the DNA from throat to stomach where acid will kill it. However, it’s a proven fact that hydration does help in washing out toxins and water is good for overall health anyway.
  8. Buy an Oximeter – if there are symptoms, you can measure Oxygen level in the body. Although, seeing a doctor is a must.

Reactive measures for Covid

Even after proactive measures, if still there are symptoms like

  1. Fever
  2. Dry cough
  3. Loss of smell
  4. Loss of taste
  5. Breathlessness

Then its time to ring the doctor. I made a test call to Arogya setu helpline on 13th July. No one picked up and no one called back. So, at least for Pune, I called up some hospitals and laboratories to understand the process on what to do. And this seems to be the list for Pune where testing/hospitalisation is possible.

Practical aspects to manage for Covid

Although we think for the best, proactively must take care of below 3 at least

  1. Make your family aware of the medical insurance coverage / card / number
  2. Your online account banking passwords. In case one is hospitalized, this is needed for life to go on
  3. Life insurance awareness

Empathy

Your maids, any regular helpers, Gardner should continue to get the salary as usual. If you yourself lose your job then you can review. Otherwise, they are vulnerable members of society and should be taken care of. They can not “Work From Home” in their T-Shirts and Bermudas.

They probably cost less than the several cakes, loaf of bread, and Dalgonas being made just because we have nothing else to do. Please think.

If someone in your society actually is infected, then here is something that may be of help.
